Hello!  My name is Leslie Uhler.  I am a mother of 4 and a Navy wife living in the midwest.  I love my life.  There is never a dull moment in our house.

I grew up in the Midwest (Iowa and Illinois), in a Christian home.  I put my trust in Jesus Christ at a very young age.  Starting in Jr High, I attended a Christian school.  As a child and as a teenager, my family never missed church.  We were there Sunday morning, Sunday night, and Wednesday night.  When I graduated high school I had plans to go to a Christian college with the intent of becoming an art teacher.  Somehow, I got distacted and I got married instead at the very young age of 19.  Although the marriage seemed like a good idea at the time, it ultimately ended in divorce with infidelity as the root cause.  And my son, Christian, and I had to start over.

I went to cosmetology school to learn a skill so that I would be able to provide for Christian.  Then, one month after my divorce was final, I met Derick at the Midwest Apostolic Christian Camp.  And, after dating for 9 months he proposed to me at a Peoria Chiefs baseball game.  He even called the local TV stations and WEEK put it on the news that night.  That was April of 2005, and in September we were married.  Three weeks later I was pregnant and in June, I gave birth to our only daughter, Adelaide.  Allyn and Brody followed soon after.

In the mean time, Derick and I had been looking for a way for Derick to finish college, but not put us thousands of dollas in debt.  Derick had started college as a 17-year-old kid in the NROTC at the University of Illinois.  This, however, was a shortlived Naval career and he eventually opted for the frat life over the military.  One day I was at my salon, talking to a new client whose husband was a reservist in the Navy.  The more she talked, the more I thought it sounded like something Derick would be interested in.  I went home intending to say just that to him.  But, before I could get one word out of my mouth, he said to me, “I know how I can get money for school.  I can join the Navy.”  Wow!  Talk about a confirmation from God!  From that moment, I have never doubted that God led Derick to join the Navy.   He signed his life away on Halloween of 2007 and a month later Allyn was born.  On Easter he left for boot camp for 9 weeks and 12 weeks of “A” school after that.

We had one year with him home before he had to leave again.  Just enough time to have our last baby, another boy.  His name is Brody.  Two weeks later Derick was shipped to South America where he is currently stationed until early spring of next year.  And I am at home with my four children ranging in age from 7 years to 4 months.  Everyday is an adventure.  Everyday is a lesson faith that God will take care of us and he has given us the strength to raise our kids with holiness and integrity.

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”  II Timothy 1:17
